During our 2025 Portland trip, we felt fortunate to experience the annual market held on Fremont Street. However, we wanted to share some of our favorite eating spots along Fremont Street, that are there all year around. Hi-Top.
During our visit, this popular happy hour spot had just been serving breakfast for a few months. We felt like we had stumbled on a treasure – literally stumbled cause we went in one morning, still half-asleep. Just as during other hours, the staff are friendly and helpful. The simple ‘breakfast sandwich’ menu item is a delicious and messy delight. We had it MANY times, often ordering one sandwich, and one chorizo taco. OMG!!!

Noho’s Hawaiian Cafe.
If you walk along Fremont St from about 9am on, you’re probably going to smell the grills at Noho’s. We enjoyed the back patio seating, the helpful staff and the well-prepared meat. We had leftovers for 2 more generous meals …. it could have lasted longer but we’re suckers for continuing to eat delicious comfort food.
Little Griddle.
They pack A LOT of flavor in their biscuit sandwiches. This isn’t a secret – we were surprised if we walked by, they were open, and their wasn’t a line waiting to eat. The kitchen and wait staff are a ‘well-oiled’ machine, moving through the tables with surprising ease. We only visited the location at 42nd Avenue, but we understand there is another Little Griddle further south.

A little further East:
Annie’s Donut Shop.
Yes, if you’re in Portland, try one of the Voodoo Donuts locations. Kitschy atmosphere and creative varieties. However, if you want consistently delicious & fresh donuts and hot coffee in a no-frills atmosphere (or take-away), don’t miss Annie’s! Buck is more a cake donut guy and I’m more the lighter fried variety but they have something for all donut lovers. If they have the apple sauce donut – try it. Yes, it’s more cakelike but so moist and flavorful!!! Warning: The later you come in the day, the less variety you may find.
A little further West:
Rose City Book Pub.
Love books? Powells isn’t the only place to visit. This place has plenty of old books for sale scattered throughout the wooden shelves, as well as some games to play while you enjoy your drink, food and the place. The first time we visited, it was to get out of the heat and satiate our curiousity about the place. The staff, vibe and cool bottled kombucha made us relaxed and happy. Oh, did we mention the baguette sandwich with turkey, bacon, fig chutney with a sides of greens and the flash fried brussels sprouts? Well, that definitely had us coming back a couple more times. If either of those are on the menu – those are our emphatic recommendations.
