Portland, Oregon: NE ALBERTA STREET

NE Alberta Street in Portland Oregon always has something going on – markets, theatre, music. And plenty of places to recharge with food and drink. [ Click on the name to be taken to Google Maps’ address/description/reviews of the place. ]

Memoire Cà Phê.

This was the first restaurant we visited, and we returned 3 more times during our 3-month stay. The shrimp omelet has delicious layers of flavor! However, it was the bowl that kept bringing us back. That gravy just complimented all the other flavors. We’re omnivores but our favorite protein was the tamari mushrooms. And the portions are large – you have to be very disciplined not to feel stuffed when you leave – you just want to keep tasting those flavors. Pay the dollar for the homemade chili sauce too!!

We kept meaning to come back for their Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk but, every time we smelled the food – we opted to stuff ourselves on the food rather than the drinks. But we give a thumbs up to the americano and cappuccino. It’s a small place so, in order to snag a table, we opted to visit shortly after they opened.

Authentic Mexican food in generous portions. We enjoyed breakfast and lunch in their large restaurant. The drink menu looked tempting but, like a few other places, we just couldn’t make room for that AND the great food.

Just Bob.

Alberta St includes several coffee shops so there is something to please everyone. We just kept coming back to Just Bob for the consistently smooth and strong coffee, the funky and relaxed atmosphere, varied seating and great staff.

McMenamins.

If you’re in the Seattle/Portland area and haven’t been to a McMenamin eatery, do it! This link is in the St. Johns neighborhood – technically this spot is a bus or car ride away from the other spots. Still, whichever place you visit, you’ll enjoy yourself. How many places do you know that can make terrific tator tots, burgers and other bar food while doing a scrumptious salad? And their beer, wine & spirit menu is massive. The rum flight is one of my favorite.
